my show in NYC. It's official. I'm part storyteller

so I just did my show in NYC last week at the Theater for The New City. I had three musicians and three singers join me on stage, plus my daughter and another person added some theatrics to the equation. I got some great, heartfelt feedback via the questionnaire as well as some very poignant, constructive criticism. One of my daughter's teachers was there in the audience and she has since invited me to come to the school to read to the children, so that's a blessing that has come as a direct result of the show. I also had a conversation with one of the young people from our neighborhood in New Jersey who was there. She requested assistance with her school work and so if schedules and everything else allows me to help her that would be cool. While I was promoting the show in the weeks before, I got an invitation from a promoter and organizer I highly respect to bring the show to his community in Brooklyn, and just tonight I had a conversation with a friend and fellow community organizer/artist about bringing my show to her town/city/community. So yeah, more realistic possibilities begin to reveal themselves. For the first time since I started doing my full length show I took the advise from someone who's opinion I highly respect and told the audience a story. And it wasn't just a really short story. It was about 15 or 20 mins which was a sizeable chunk of the show. It was fun to just tell a story and overall I think the story worked. I probably could've shortened it and made it just as good, but I feel good for having crossed that bridge and getting to the other side. It's official now. I'm also part storyteller.
